The World Has a Voice

The World Has a Voice

Characters have always spoken on MindStage. Now the room does too.

The scene answers

Every story opens with the world setting the scene before anyone says a word. From then on, when something in the room deserves a line, it gets one. The rain picking up on the window. The door at the far end that was closed a minute ago. The crowd going quiet. It comes in beside the dialogue, in the story's own register, and only when there is something worth saying.

It never speaks for the characters. What people say and do is theirs. The world voice covers everything else.

It knows the story

The voice keeps up with where the story has been and how it is being told. Move somewhere new and it puts you there. Turn the mood and it turns with you. Nothing generic, nothing repeated.

On missions

In a mission the world voice is how you feel the stakes. It marks the moment a plan lands or comes apart, and carries you from one objective into the next. Clear a chapter and the world tells you where you stand before the next one begins.

Where to find it

Everywhere. Open any story and read the lines that are not in quotes.
